What's next after installing one active anti-virus and possibly two passive anti-malware programs? You can still enhance your online security using web site recommendations, protecting your sensitive data from keyloggers and keeping all your software up to date.

McAfee SiteAdvisor

This free program is a godsend for each and every one of us. McAfee SiteAdvisor uses site ratings for keeping you away from malicious web sites - those that spam, try to trick you into installing some adware, spyware or other forms of malware and those that try to exploit security flaws for installing malware on your computer without you ever noticing it. Yes, World Wide Web (aka the Internet) is a very dangerous place!

McAfee SiteAdvisor both warns you about dangerous websites and downloads and marks web search results (Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc) with security ratings (safe, caution, warning and sometimes - unknown).

QFX KeyScrambler Personal

KeyScrambler Personal is a free program that prevents keyloggers from stealing your user names, passwords and other sensitive data while browsing the Internet. It encrypts your keystrokes so that those malicious loggers cannot really steal your data. For example, when you type "password" into a text box in Internet Explorer, key logger programs would see some senseless characters instead, say "1hfG9k.U".
KeyScrambler Personal is a must for everyone.

Secunia Personal Software Inspector

Mostly shortened to Secunia PSI, the program scans and detects myriad of programs and plug-ins (not just Microsoft's!) possibly installed in your computer. PSI then checks whether they are up-to-date or not and notifies you about any insecure programs installed. It also displays links to solutions and updates for those out-of-date and insecure programs, so patching is easy!
As you might know, most successful attacks and infections happen because of outdated or unpatched software, therefore it is very important to keep your programs patched.

Microsoft Enhanced Mitigation Experience Toolkit

Microsoft EMET is our new favorite free program for protecting Internet Explorer, Adobe Reader, Adobe Flash Player, Sun Java, Skype and other programs from zero-day flaws. It adds an extra security layer to many programs using well-known security techniques that have unbelievably complex names. Wink
Judging by several security bulletins, EMET really does its job very well.

Trusteer Rapport

Trusteer Rapport is a fantastic free program that protects your credentials and identity online. Rapport secures your online experience by creating a secure tunnel between your browser and the website you are using - this keeps even the most infamous password-stealing malware away. Phishing, identity theft, Man-in-the-Browser and Man-in-the-Middle attacks are history with Rapport.
